Working together and Interrelationships
P3 - met Interrelationships and the chain of distribution at Alton Towers and the Hilton Hotel AJW
Chain of Distribution.
The Chain of Distribution is a chart which explains where agents involved with the Travel and Tourism Industry are linked together through the Chain of Distribution. The Chain of Distribution helps me understand how horizonatal and vertical integration works so if a tour operator mergers with another tour operator this is horizontal integration because they are on the same level as the Chain of Distribution but if the tour operator merged with a travel agent or a transport provider this would be vertically integrated.
Alton Towers
Alton Towers is a big organisation therefore it attracts thousands of visitors from inside and outside the UK. This is good because it helps local businesses such as hotels and restaurants around the area because if people are visiting and they don't live nearby then they are going to need somewhere to sleep therefore the hotels are attraction them visitors. Alton Towers also works with coach companies to pick people up from schools and colleges for example. If there are a group of people visiting Alton Towers and using one of the coach companies then there would be a package which would help save money for the group and benfit everyone. This benefits coach companies because if a coach gets a full coach then they will get more money and also Alton Towers will get money from people being in the park because they will buy things such as food and souvenirs. Not only does Alton Towers help the coach companies it also has benefits for taxi companies because they will get alot of money from taking people to and from Alton Towers. The theme park is located on a top of hill which makes it alot harder for a coach to get there than it does for a taxi. Alton Towers also promotes attarctions in the area, they have a stand in the guest services area which gives lots of information about other place to visit. This will benefit the local economy as it will give visitors information about other places in the area to visit and then they may visit that attraction.
Hilton Hotel
Hilton Hotel is also a huge organisation as they have hotels all over the world. This business helps a lot of other businesses such as taxi companies. This is because when people are staying at the Hilton they might be in a new area they havent been to before therefore they might need provided transport for them to get to different places, so the Hilton has links with the taxi companies.
Hotels such as the Hilton help bring in customers from all around the world such as inbound and domestic. This is good for business in that area because then people are coming and spending their money in that area which is where the multiplier effect comes in. Most Travel and Tourism organisations benefit from people staying in hotels because people might want to get out and try different things and go to different events and attractions. Also guided tours of popular places are very popular therefore people might want to go and do one of them. If people are visiting the hotel, they have concierges who help organise activites for people so they have things to do. When guests stay in a hotel they might want to have something to eat and drink, local restaurants will be able to provide the visitors with food and this is a benefit to the restaurant and bars as it bring employment and business to them.
So you can see that there are many benefits and links for the industry from the hotels.
